Mutt Monday: Meet Buddy

Just look at that pouty lip! Buddy is a 6 - 7 year old gentleman waiting for his forever family to find him through the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter. Happily, Buddy is currently in a foster family who adore him! They say that he is very low key, walks well on a leash and loves people. Buddy really attaches to his person and definitely will be a loyal companion to his future family. Buddy gets along well with children and would do well with a smaller dog if properly introduced. He does get a little rowdy from time to time and loves to find fun games to play! He enjoys sunbathing and thinks that he can be a lap dog, despite his size!

To learn more about Buddy or to set up a meet and greet, contact mvalenta@wilco.org.

Mutt Monday: Meet Ari

Today's Mutt Monday feature is a bittersweet writeup for me. Ari is such a special girl and it truly breaks my heart that she has been waiting for nearly 3 years for her forever family to find her. I photographed this sweet pup in 2015, after she was pulled from the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter into the care of a partner rescue group, Georgetown Animal Outreach.

Why has she been waiting so long? There isn't really a reason! Ari is a precious lady, she is incredibly smart, gets along well with everyone she meets and when properly introduced, is perfectly well behaved around other dogs and seems to be uninterested in cats. Ari's foster family has two dogs of their own and she does well with them. Unfortunately, Ari is leaving her current foster home and needs to find a new place to hunker down while she waits to be adopted. Even better, a foster to adopt situation would be the perfect setup for this cute girl.

Ari is a 3 year old Pointer and Great Dane mix. Her foster family has taught her some amazing obedience skills, including sit, down, stay and several other basic commands. Ari is a young dog and has plenty of energy, making her the perfect addition to an active family. With the proper excercise, Ari also enjoys plenty of cuddle time.

As with all dogs, it may take a little time for Ari to adjust to her new home. She is a wonderful dog and once she settles in to your family, she will be a loyal companion for life!

As an added bonus, Ari's adoption comes with a FREE membership to the Doghouse Drinkery and Dog Park in Cedar Park, TX (All potential dog members are evaluated at the park prior to joining, Ari would still need to go through her evaluation.)

If you are interested in learning more or meeting Ari, contact Georgetown Animal Outreach

Mutt Monday: Meet Athena

How gorgeous is this face! Athena is a beautiful fawn Great Dane saved by the amazing, fantastic, super-hero rescue organization, Paws of Austin Great Dane Rescue.

This organization is among my favorite rescues to know. Not only do they take on some extremely hard cases (see Sadie as last week's Mutt Monday pooch), but they run completely on donations and volunteer time. Paws of Austin has a fantastic foster family network and works to pull Great Danes or Great Dane mixes from area shelters and/or special situations to ensure they are placed into loving homes vs sitting in a shelter.

Athena is just one of those lucky Paws of Austin pups. She was rescued nearly a year ago from a neglectful situation and sadly, her owners are unable to care for her so she is searching for a wonderful home. Athena is a sweet lady, great with kids and she gets along well with other dogs. She is house-trained and knows her basic commands. Athena is only 2 years young and looking for the perfect forever family to join.

If you are interested in learning more about Athena or any of the pups with Paws of Austin Great Dane Rescue, visit their website.

Mutt Monday: Adopt Sadie

Sadie is a beautiful Great Dane rescued by Paws of Austin in - you guessed it - Austin, TX. She is a small Dane with puppy looks although she is about 1 year old already. Sadie has a severe case of HOD (Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy), a bone disease that affects young, large breed dogs as they grow rapidly. The disease produces swollen joints, lameness and pain, which Sadie is being treated for and given lots of TLC in her foster home.

Due to her condition, Sadie can barely open up her mouth. It is obvious that Sadie was not at all cared for before she came into rescue and she was slowly starving to death. Happily, her story did not have a tragic ending it could have. Sadie ended up in the loving hands of Paws of Austin and with her new treatment plan, Sadie has put on weight and is on her way to recovery. While her Veterinarians are not yet sure she will ever fully recover, Sadie's condition is manageable and everyone is hopeful that her perfect family will find her!

For more information about Sadie or any of the amazing Great Danes available through Paws of Austin, visit their website!

Mutt Monday: Ruger

Ruger is one handsome and sweet pup! He is friendly and affectionate with people of all ages, he enjoys being around older children and is already house-trained! This boy was surrendered to the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter in early April. He loves to learn and listens well, especially when treats are involved!

This cute boy loves to go n walks and explore the outdoors, but also enjoys a nice cuddle and is very appreciative of belly rubs! Ruger needs to be the only pet in a home, but he will be sure to give you all the love you can handle!

Mutt Monday: Bunny

Bunny is an adorable, fun, playful and silly pup available for adoption through the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter in Georgetown, TX. This sweet girl loves cuddles and is super-smart. She lives for treats and when you take her out for walks, she almost prances and skips, she is so happy to be out!
This sweet girl is one of the shelter's Longtime-Loveables, which means she has been at the shelter over 60 days. Her adoption fee has already been paid for, now all she needs is the perfect family to stop by and scoop her up!

Bunny is a staff and volunteer favorite, so if you decide that she is the one for you, expect to send in a handful of updates because we will all want to see how she is settling in to her new life!

Mutt Monday: Meet Zeus

I was lucky enough to meet this handsome gentleman a few months ago at Puppy Mill Awareness Day Austin. Zeus is a 5 - 6 year old male pitbull mix rescued through the awesome organization, Don't Bully Me Rescue in Austin, TX. This handsome gentleman has been with the rescue since 2012, yes that's right, 4 years of living in a foster home. Of course, we love knowing that Zeus is safe, but we would love to hear that he has finally found his forever family!

Zeus was once a stray in San Antonio, TX, but luckily was found and brought into Don't Bully Me Rescue's program. He has blossomed in his foster home, he is house trained, eager to learn and knows sit, down and heels during walks. He walks beautifully on a leash and enjoys the company of other female dogs. Don't Bully Me Rescue would love to see Zeus join a family where he can have another dog buddy, but Zeus would prefer medium to large dogs and no cats.

If you are interested in meeting Zeus or learning more about Don't Bully Me Rescue's program, visit their website here!

Mutt Monday: Meet Bonnie Blue

Sometimes, you meet a rescue dog that just makes you melt, for me, Bonnie Blue was definitely one of those dogs! I had the pleasure of meeting this sweet lady at the annual Pittie Pride festival, hosted by one of my favorite local organizations, Love-A-Bull, inc just a couple of weeks ago! After spending a moment chatting with Steve, the founder of Stray Acres, who obviously has a huge heart for each of the rescue pets in his care, I took Bonnie out of her crate for a quick photo session.  This sweet girl immediately plopped over onto her back asking for a belly rub (apparently her favorite pastime) and refused to get up until she was satisfied. Happily, her handlers obliged and I was treated to a cute sight of this wiggly girl soaking up the attention.

Bonnie Blue is currently available for adoption through Stray Acres Sanctuary, a small organization in Bertram, TX. If you are interested in learning more about adopting Bonnie or any of the beautiful dogs available through Stray Acres, visit their website or make a donation to help more pets like Bonnie Blue!

Mutt Monday: Meet Billie

Talk about a fun dog! Billie is currently available for adoption through Austin Dog Rescue and is a ball of happy, cute energy. I had the pleasure of meeting Billie at Puppy Mill Awareness Day Austin and spent some time chatting with her fosters, who say she is just a wonderful dog waiting for that perfect family to scoop her up.

Billie is more than just a gorgeous redhead though, from her own bio online:

"Hi everyone! I am Billie and I am about one of the most fun pups I have ever met! I love running and jumping on everything, even when I don't all the way make it and fall! I have that 'must try' attitude that keeps everyone laughing. I give kisses, all the time, and am pretty darn strong for my size so I get a lot of kisses in!

I currently live with some big foster canines and I love to wrestle and play ALL the time!! I would love a home with a canine brother who can match my energy however I would be OK being the only child as well as long as I get lots and lots of play time. I cannot be in a home with cats though and I think the cats will agree they would prefer not to be in a home with me.
I am pretty active for a puppy so I would probably not do well in a home with littler kids because my excitement might get in the way of good judgement. I would really like a home where my family could spend lots of time with me teaching me manners, socialization, training and helping me find a task for my working breed background.
Because I am thought to be at least part Australian Cattle Dog a family that knows some about working breeds would be helpful to me as I learn who I am.
Do you sound like a fit for my lifestyle? If so submit an application today so we can meet!"

Mutt Monday: Roseanne

Today, I had the absolute pleasure of spending time with Roseanne, one of the cutest little Pugs in Austin!

Roseanne is a 6 year old lady who is just full of pep and positive energy! As soon as I arrived at the park for our photo shoot, Roseanne bolted right to me and eagerly awaited a pumpkin treat (somehow all of my clients seem to know I have plenty of treats on hand).

Roseanne was a dream during our photo shoot and listened intently for cues (sit, stay, etc) and was thrilled to show off her skills for a treat. This happy girl knows sit, down, roll over and stay.

While Roseanne is a bundle of adorable dog, she is looking for a family that understands her medical needs. Sadly, this sweet girl does suffer from seizures and a breathing issue. While both are controllable with medication and proper care, it is important that Roseanne finds a family that is willing to offer her proper care for these issues. Pug Rescue of Austin will provide Roseanne's new family with all the information needed along with a Veterinary recommendation and her previous health records.

Mention Pug Rescue Austin with
any order at www.petstudioart.com
and I will happily donate 20% to
help more dogs like Roseanne.
Even with her medical issues, Roseanne is full of life and adores being the center of attention. She loves to snuggle and would prefer a family that can give her lots of TLC. Roseanne also enjoys spending her days with other dogs, so if you have another pup that could use a friend, Roseanne may be the perfect dog to add to your family!

To learn more about adopting Roseanne, visit Pug Rescue of Austin and submit an inquiry through their website!

Mutt Monday: Mary Jane Seeks Forever Home

When starting the ever important search for a new forever family member, you will likely have a list of qualities you would like in your new furry friend.

Dog friendly? Check.
People Friendly? Check.
Vaccinated and Spayed? Check.
Adorable? Check.
Charming? Check.
Small and cuddly?  Check.

... and by choosing adoption you are saving a life, which is the biggest 'check' of all when deciding to add a new pet to your family!

Mary Jane is a 2 year old Boston Terrier mix (maybe a little Rat Terrier in the mix as well) who would love an active home of her own. She walks well on a leash, and gets along with other dogs, although she definitely prefers the company of less dominant dogs. Mary Jane is housebroken, loves toys and being pampered in the bath. Have a cozy bed? Mary Jane is a great snuggler and would truly enjoy curling up in your lap while you lounge on the couch or work at your desk.

This beautiful lady is available for adoption through Forgotten Friends mixed Breed Rescue. You can show your support for the amazing work that this organization does by visiting their website or making a donation to help more dogs like Mary Jane.

PUPDATE: Mary Jane now has an adoption pending, but would love for you to check out her fabulous friends available for adoption through Forgotten Friends Mixed Breed Rescue!

Mutt Monday: Annabelle Lee

This Mutt Monday, I am thrilled to feature Annabelle Lee, a gorgeous Basset Hound mix available for adoption through Helping Hands Basset Rescue in Austin, TX.

I had the pleasure of meeting Annabelle and her foster family at Strut Your Mutt Austin, presented by Best Friend's Animal Society last month. This event highlights area rescues and invites them to showcase their adoptable pets. After chatting with her foster family, I learned that Annabelle Lee was on the list to be put down at a South Texas Shelter. Her crime? Annabelle had a large cyst on her hip and her stray hold was up, which in this shelter's eyes made her unadoptable. Luckily for Annabelle, a kind stranger called Helping Hands Basset Rescue and they headed off to scoop her up.

Helping Hands not only ensured that Annabelle received proper medical care to have her cyst removed, but they also arranged for a foster family to care for her until she is ready to be adopted.

In her foster home, Annabelle started to show her true side, she loves car rides, is house trained and adores attention. Her favorite pastime is snuggling up in a chair with you. Annabelle enjoys the company of other dogs once she has a change to get to know them and is also good with cats.

If you are interested in learning more about Annabelle or scheduling a meet and greet, contact Helping Hands Basset Rescue for more information!

Mention Helping Hands Basset Rescue with any order at www.petstudioart.com and I will happily donate 20% of our profits to HHBR to help more dogs like Annabelle!
