2000+ Pets in Austin

Over the last week, as rescue efforts from Hurricane Harvey have been underway, I have had the pleasure of working with Austin Pets Alive at their emergency, temporary shelter. This shelter was setup at a moment's notice, as APA! was first on the scene to assist animals displaced during the storm. The biggest population of animals has come from the Houston area, but of course, animals have been coming in from coastal cities impacted as well. The majority  of animals are from shelters that were impacted, so many of these animals will be available for adoption as we know they were already looking to be adopted before the storm hit.

How did APA! get their act together so quickly? It feels as though this was put together in a matter of minutes, but the truth is, this organization is full of amazing individuals and had they not been instrumental in making positive changes throughout the city of Austin over the last 8 years, they would not have the knowledge or volunteer power to pull off a rescue of this magnitude. This was something special, a collection of individuals with a passion and a willingness to take on a new and overwhelming challenge.

I can't really put this experience into words, so I simply put together a video of the temporary shelter.
